Our First Christmas Tree: A small space solution
My girlfriend and I were ready to put up a Christmas tree, but we don’t have a lot of space. Another issue we had to address was our lease agreement. It stated that we couldn’t have a live tree or any decorations that may pose a fire hazard. Fortunately, we found a flame-resistant four-foot artificial tree, some white Christmas lights and some old costume jewelry pearls (her idea). We placed the tree in one living room corner of our apartment on a small glass-top stand in order to save space. We chose to place it on the stand to give the tree a little more height and allow plenty of space underneath for all the gifts that I’ll be getting this Christmas.

We haven’t fully decorated our tree, but we have some fun ideas. We are going to spare the expense of buying all the tree decorations; instead we have decided to make some ourselves. This is our first Christmas together, so I thought that a commemorative tree decoration, as well as a few other hand made decorations, would add a fun and personal touch to our first place and first Christmas together.
After the tree, we strung lights around the apartment windows so they can be enjoyed from both inside and outside. Because we’re not fully unpacked, the lights added a little extra needed light until we get our permanent lighting and furniture settled in one place. Right now it looks like we’ll be stringing a few more throughout our place. All of this along with a few other traditional touches, we hope, will give our apartment an eclectic look with a twist of traditional holiday cheer.
How are you decorating for Christmas without being a grinch?
