Shopping List: Preparing for Your First Apartment

Costco membership- I honestly thought that this would help me out sooooo much before I got my first apartment. In some ways it did because I was still very naive to the art of the COUPONS. This membership made it very easy to stock up on things like toilet paper, paper towel, and bulk snack items like delicious oatmeal! Honestly though, If you watch the papers (Kroger, Meijer, Hillers, Ex.) you can get just as good of a deal on some of the stuff you need, if not better. No joke.  You would also be saving yourself $50 smackers (Average Costco or Sam’s Club annual fee) that you defiantly would want to put aside! My original intent was not for this to be so anti-wholesale department stores!

I actually want to make a list of the times I found most helpful to get before I actually moved into my very first apartment…

  • Bathroom supplies- Not only just toilet paper, but also pick up towels, shower curtain, and a toothbrush holder! You seriously don’t want to leave that thing laying around! Also, Try to stockpile some of the regular use items like toothpaste, mouthwash, shampoo, ex…
  • Hangers- Every apartment I have ever lived in has had the most ridiculous closet space and shelving.  Not bad, just excess. Get enough hangers for your own closet and some extras any other closets you may have.
  • Kitchen Supplies- Like dish detergent, dish scrubbies, cabinet paper (It’s a lining to protect your dishes from touching the interior of the cabinets… Trust me, you want them. )
  • Cleaning supplies- Vacuum, Swiffer, Windex, Resolve (carpet cleaner), Febreeze, Multi-surface cleaner, ex… You’ll be grateful when you get your whole security deposit back!

These are only a few I can think of that really helped me out! Don’t forget, SAVE! and get all these things before you move in!
