Beer Pong – Done The Right Way

Social gatherings at apartments usually involve alcohol consumption. The easiest (and most legal) way to enhance the amount of fun involving alcohol is to get a game of beer pong going. Beer pong steps up competition in a friendly and fun manner.

Beer pong is very easy to get going. All you need is twenty cups, a couple of ping pong balls, a flat surface, and four people. Each side has 10 cups stacked like a pyramid (4-3-2-1) and a team of two. Now, there are plenty of different rules for this game. Everywhere you go it seems there are different rules. You can visit the Official Beer Pong site if you need a further in-depth look at the game. I do have one recommendation though: most people pour the beer straight into the cups the ball lands in that they eventually drink. Try just filling those cups with water and take a drink from your can of beer whenever the ball lands in a cup. It’s way cleaner and a good way of making it seem like you’re being healthy while drinking.

The best way to separate yourself from the rest of the beer-pong-playing pack is to make a unique table. Give your table a theme and people will remember you.

For example, since I ran track in college, my roommates (also track runners) and I made our beer pong table into the shape of a track. We bought some wood at Home Depot, along with the paint of our school colors, black and gold. We painted the wood black, and then put eight lanes in gold all around the border. Within all the lanes, we also put everyone’s name on the team. In the middle we put our school’s logo. Then, just for kicks, we cut the board in half and put a couple door hinges in the middle. This way, we could fold up the table and make it easier to store in the closet so when our coach brought a recruit over, it’d be well hid from plain sight. For a rather cheap price and not too much work, we made a table that stood out from the rest and got a ton of compliments.

I also stumbled across a lot of other cool tables in the past few years while attending parties at various apartments. Someone else I knew collected bottle caps from beer bottles for about a year, then glued them all onto a table. This took a lot, and I mean a lot, of caps and gluing. The final product looked solid though. After all the caps were glued on and in place, he put sheets of glass over the table and glued those together.

I’ve also had four friends whom lived together and they were all from different countries. They split their table up into four rectangles and then painted on each country’s flag. Again, simple, but it stood out and it was something cool to see.

With a large or small budget, making a beer pong table for your apartment could be a great project idea when you and a few friends find some extra free time. Explore your creativity. You’d be surprised with what you may come up with.
