Four Ways To Make Google Technology Work For YOU
Say goodbye to the past and hello to what is new!
When William Shakespeare wrote, “Parting is such sweet sorrow,” he had no idea what tricks Google had up their sleeve. Get ready to update your life this spring. Google offers amazing free resources that will take your life out of the “2000 and LATE” category! What are you waiting for??
FOUR WAYS TO MAKE GOOGLE TECHNOLOGY WORK FOR YOU
Say goodbye to your flash drive!
- Google Docs allows users to upload files to a server on the Internet. Life is unexpected. You never know when you might need to access or share a document. When a person needs to move a document from one computer to another, all he or she has to do is upload it onto Google Docs. This holds true for Word Documents, Excel Spreadsheets, Power Point Presentations, and other documents. Simply log-in and access your information. If you need to share the document, add a friend’s e-mail and determine their access level to view and/or edit.
Say goodbye to old fashioned maps!
- Google Maps is my favorite tool in the world. I recently moved to a new apartment and am still getting familiar with the area. When on my Blackberry, I can access directions to where I need to go. It will take your current location or the beginning address entered and provide directions and an ETA. If I am in doubt that maybe I missed a turn, all I have to do is update my directions! Also, Maps works well with vague descriptions. I type in words like coffee or library and it provides a listing of what is in the area.
Say goodbye to expensive photo editing software!
- Picasa is a freeware photo editing program that users can use to do basic photo editing. With rent, utilities and groceries, who has the extra cash to buy expensive software?? In addition to being free, it works like Adobe Bridge in providing an overview of what images are on a computer. Photos can be moved, deleted, or uploaded online to Google’s Photo storage space.
Say goodbye to paper calendars!
- Google calendar is available through e-mail and smart phones. Although you may love your kitten calendar on the wall, it easily gets overlooked when life gets busy. Simply add reoccurring dates (for example: classes, work, weekly meetings) to the Google Calendar. It will then organize life. These events can be labeled and color coated. If you have a smart phone, Google will send an e-mail every morning of what is on the schedule for each day.
These are only a few of the many awesome services Google provides users. Do you use any of these tools already? Is there one I have to be sure to mention? How has technology made your life run more smoothly? Share your story!
