Pepsi Refresh: Lunch With a Purpose
Even though I already volunteer with a few organizations in my area, I am always looking for new and exciting things to do out in the community. Since I already play some bigger roles in a few organizations, sometimes it is nice to get out and do something that I just have to show up for and do my best while I am there.
I am sure many of you know exactly what I am talking about. You might often find yourself wanting to do a little extra, but know it would not make sense to take on another leadership role. Still, you are constantly looking for little ways to give back here and there- ways allowing you to give back without adding more stress to your life.
I am right there with you and believe me, that is not a bad thing. I simply mean I have learned it is possible to actually volunteer without turning it into a stressful production (I don’t always have to raise my hand to take on a leadership position) and it is still a productive and effective way to give back to the community.
I went to breakfast the other day with some great people and this is where I heard about Lunch With A Purpose. I couldn’t help but find out more as soon as I got to a computer later that morning.
Lunch With A Purpose was started by three amazing greater-Lansing guys: Justin Caine, Justin “Bugsy” Sailor, and TJ Duckett. One day a week, from 12:15 p.m. to 1:15p.m., people donate their lunch hours to help a worthy charitable organization.
Can you say ‘genius?!’ Simple enough, straight-to-the-point, and easy to get involved with. Why not join if you live in the Lansing, MI area; or, for the many of you who are elsewhere, take the inspiration and start something similar in your own communities.
Why not volunteer during your lunch hour? You have an hour at work to eat, but do you really need that full hour? Instead of scarfing down your food and shopping online for the rest of the hour, or fooling around on Facebook, head out and do some good!
You can eat in the car to and from the location anyway. Plus, this is perfect for those of us who keep our calendars filled up and have a difficult time fitting more in without stressing out. There is no need to worry about having to make time after work, or on a weekend when you are hoping to relax a bit, or on a day you would have to take time off work. Now you can volunteer during your lunch hour, and what boss is going to say no to that?
We were so inspired by Pepsi reallocating their marketing money to go toward the greater good in their Pepsi Refresh campaign that we decided to do our own small part in helping out our communities. Each week we will be posting blogs on ways that we have contributed to bettering the communities we live in. I hope you enjoy and are inspired to make a difference!
