Pepsi Refresh: March of Dimes, March for Babies

April 25, 2010
By Amy

On Saturday, April 24, 2010 we had the honor of participating in the March for Babies. The march is a 6 mile walk to help raise money in support of the March of Dimes mission to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.

We walk in celebration and thankfulness for our two happy, healthy blessings and in loving memory of our angel friend, Nathaniel, who grew wings when he was born still on June 22, 2007. Nathaniel and his parent’s story have touched our hearts in such a way that we want to do a part in the March of Dimes efforts to help all babies be born healthy.

The day was damp and cool, but the spirits of the walkers warmed us all through. To have so many people in one place in support of the same cause is invigorating and inspirational. We make it a family effort by including our two boys in the walk. This year they rode circles around us on their scooter and skateboard the entire 6 miles.

It was an awesome learning experience for our boys to walk as a family, not to mention a ton of fun. It gave us the opportunity to talk about the importance of family and helping others. We heard and read about so many touching stories while on our walk.

I had not heard of the March of Dimes prior to hearing our friend’s story. Since then, I have met so many people who lives have been touched by the March of Dimes. It is truly a wonderful organization and cause. From the heart-breaking stories of loss to the miraculous triumphs of pre-mature birth and everything in between, we truly saw the power of community at work while families and friends joined together in support of each other. The March of Dimes and its supporters give hope to countless families and future parents.

To find out if there is a walk in your area or if you would like more information about pregnancy, babies or prematurity please visit the March of Dimes website, where the hope lives that one day, all babies will be born healthy.

Have you ever walked in the March of Dimes or March for Babies? What organizations or causes do you support? Share your stories!

We were so inspired by Pepsi reallocating their marketing money to go toward the greater good in their Pepsi Refresh campaign that we decided to do our own small part in helping out our communities. We will be posting blogs on ways that we have contributed to bettering the communities we live in. I hope you enjoy and are inspired to make a difference!
