Too Many Shoes, Not Enough Square Footage
Before you get anxious that I am favoring the female readers with this post, I shall let it be known that I know a fair number of males that have quite a shoe collection of their own. This post goes out to all of our shoe-loving readers – no matter your gender, age, or number of shoes, this will surely help you keep your shoe collection organized!
For quite some time, I found keeping my shoe collection organized to be a daunting task. That was, until I figured out how to manage and keep it neat in a way that was easy for me. I needed a system that was organized, but not too organized because I wanted to be sure I had easy access to any pair at any time.
That was when I began to keep the boxes that my shoes came in. This is what works best for me to keep my shoes organized. The boxes are easily stackable and fit in various places. They can fit under the bed, on the floor of the closet or on the top shelf in the closet (great for when you are storing seasonal shoes).
Many of my friends are impressed that I am able to keep my shoes in their respective boxes and keep them in such good shape. Furthermore, for some reason, no one can believe that I remember which pair of shoes is in which box.
For me, this is not too difficult. But being the type of person I am (always trying to problem-solve and help others come up with solutions), I have come up with a few other ways to organize shoes to help out my friends who prefer something a little different.
Okay, so far we know you can keep your shoes in the boxes they came in and fit them easily into any spot. More suggestions include the following:
- Clear plastic containers: These are easily stackable and are great for those of you who are not sure you will remember which pair of shoes is in which box. Also, plastic containers will certainly prove to be more durable than the average shoebox.
- Shoe boxes with photos: You can use my way of keeping your shoes in their boxes, but if you want to see what’s inside, take a photo of the shoes when you get them home from the store. Print the photo and tape it onto the outside of the box – memory problem solved!
- Wicker baskets: Big, round (oval, square, or whichever shape you choose works just fine) – wicker baskets are a great way to keep your shoes together. You can use a few baskets to separate shoes by occasion, season, or even by color. The baskets also look nice doubling as decor (a couple of my favorites are shown to the right).
Now that you have plenty of suggestions, pick up all of those shoes off the floor. Time to get organized. We would love to see photos of your newly organized shoe collection too!
